The Chamber of Commerce is deeply disappointed by the decision to proceed with a 9.9% minimum wage increase, despite repeated warnings from employers across the Island.
Chamber supports proportionate regulation where there is a proven risk to public safety. However the bill, in its current form, is disproportionate, duplicative, and Economically damaging.
The chamber noted back in July that changes to the minimum wage calculation methodology were imminent. the now confirmed 9.9% increase represents one of the largest adjustments in recent years.
Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce wants Tynwald to back proposals in a department for enterprise report which would change how minimum and living wage rates are calculated.
The Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce welcomes the recently published review by the Department for Enterprise and Treasury on the methodology used to set minimum and living wage rates. This follows years of advocacy by Chamber and its members for a more evidence-based and economically sustainable approach to wage-setting.
